The purchase of a Pottinger Torro 5100L self loading forage wagon in 2008 has been a real revelation. With a full season and around 800 acres now under his belt Davie feels the Pottinger wagon has established itself firmly within his contracting business. “The reliability has been outstanding, which is vital to ensure that I can deliver an efficient service to my customers” comments Davie. “ For me key reasons for choosing the Pottinger wagon over other makes was the market leading short chop length for a wagon of 35mm, the Easy Move swing out knife bank system means I can easily access the all the chopping knives beside the machine ensuring that my customers get good quality well chopped silage. Many of my customers choose to work the clamp themselves and are really happy with the quality of the silage as it has been as good as before if not better!” When it comes to working the wagon Davies has found its Austrian heritage has proved itself on the slopes around Dunphail. “The Pottinger Torro wagon is equipped with high specification parabolic tandem axles which distribute the weight evenly, it gives me the confidence to go places I thought impossible”. All in all after his first season Davie says he and his customers are delighted with his new Pottinger Torro wagon. _______________________________________________________________ Frank Colville Colville Contractors, Fyvie, Turriff Mobile: 07801384590
JUMBO Combiline 6000L For Scottish contractor Frank Colville the move to a forage wagon was something driven out of a need to continue his forage harvesting service to his existing customers. For many years Colville Contrctors, based at Fyvie in Aberdeenshire, had operated a fleet of trailed forage harvesters, which handled the forage harvesting business covering many farms across this North Easterly part of Scotland. With the trailed foragers ageing and repair/refurbishment becoming uneconomical Frank started to look aroung for an alternative. "There is already a high population of self propelled forage harvesters in the area" comments Frank "and I didn;t want to get into the commitment and costs of running such an expensive machine" Havind tried a demonstration wagone from us Frank could see he had found the solution to his harvesting dilemma. "It's been somewhat of a revelation using what seemed initially to be a huge wagon. We operate the Combiline and the combination fo high road speed and huge load capacity has seen us able to move output upwards of 10 acres and hour. The wagon actually gets into everywhere we used to go with the trailed harvesters and trailers and now doesn't seem so huge. On the wide tyres and tandem parabolic axles the Jumbo Combiline just floats over the ground hardly leaving a mark, even when loaded. Running costs too have been very low with just the odd broken blade and pick-up-tine during the whole season. It's been wuite a change in the way we do things but certainly for the better and as a result I have added a second Pottinger wagon, a Torro 5700L model, this year to hep with the increading workload.
